Are you a kind or not-so-kind person? How many acts of kindness have you recorded last month? If you are a parent, teacher, or caregiver, The Smiley Girl is a must-read that you should add to your child’s bookshelf. The Smiley Girl is a story of a little girl named Cindy who inspires other children to design their own kindness calendars in order to keep up with daily random acts of kindness.
The kindness calendar is a fun and interesting activity that can be
done at home, at school, or everywhere else we find children. At the
end of the day, the week, or the month, the child with the most random
acts of kindness can win a prize so that others can be encouraged to
keep doing it.
Kindness is something that is stressed in schools, especially in trying
to reinforce social and emotional learning skills. Cindy also models
how to organize and plan. This is another strategy that is taught in
schools.
The Smiley Girl can be read aloud to introduce those
strategies, even up to middle and high school because the book could
be used to lead a longer discussion with the students.
About The Smiley Girl
Authors' Summary: Cindy the smiley little girl reminds us through her kindness calendar that we should always be kind to one another. No matter what life throws at us, we always have the power to choose how we will react. When we do something kind, we help fill someone else’s bucket.
