Have you ever smelled something and the scent immediately took you to a
special place and time? Like the smell of marshmallows around a
bonfire or walking into the warm sweet smell of a bakery?
A little boy named Tyler never wants to forget his favorite smells. He bottles them up, adds a label, and puts each one neatly on his bedroom shelf to smell whenever he wants to remember a special time in his life!
What are some of your favorite smells and what kind of great memories do
they take you back to…?
Did you know that our sense of smell is the strongest sense to hold memories? Like when you walk into a room and smell something that takes you back to somewhere you've been before...
Did you know that our sense of smell is the strongest sense to hold memories? Like when you walk into a room and smell something that takes you back to somewhere you've been before...
like your grandmother’s kitchen...
a movie theater...
or a family beach vacation...
Did you also know that humans can detect at least one TRILLION smells?
My book shares some interesting facts about the physiological aspects of smelling and memory and includes a place for children and parents to log their favorite smells!
For teachers, you will have many opportunities to engage your writers in creating “seeds for writing” by asking your students to think about the smells that bring them joy and elaborate on that special time and place.

I hope you enjoy the playful illustrations by Bryan Janky, and let your
super power sniffer take you away as Tyler shares with you the
scents that he jars up and collects and will never forget!
